To register for the Main Residency Match® or Specialties Matching Service® (Fellowship) Matches, an AAMC ID is not required but it is recommended.  Including an AAMC ID in your Match registration will make it easier for programs to rank you in the NRMP Registration, Ranking, and Results® (R3®) system.

There are five different position types in the Main Residency Match: Categorical, "C"; Primary, "M"; Preliminary, "P"; Advanced, "A"; and Reserved, "R".

The NRMP maintains an Institution and Program Violations Report in the Registration, Ranking, and Results® (R3®) system that is available to applicants who register for any NRMP Match. The report displays information about graduate medical education programs and sponsoring institutions that have violated the Match Participation Agreement and displays term limits of any sanction(s) imposed.
